JOB'S MEETING WITH GOD
Job 38-42

I. Background
  A. Satan and God make two deals
     i) Satan says Job only serves him because of God's great care
     ii) God said Job was righteous and had integrity ; he would not curse his God
  B. Job loses his wealth , servants and children but blesses God - Chapter 1
  C. Job loses his health and his wife's support but accepts God's will - Chapter 2
  D. Job goes into deep depression - Chapter 3
  E. Job's friends tell him that bad things happen to bad people so he must be bad - Chapters 4-37
  F. Job insists on his innocence and wants God to let him " make his case "

II. God Talks To Job In A Whirlwind - Chapters 38-42
  A. God tells Job
     i) you dare to talk about the deep things of God that you can not understand
     ii) you are weak and limited ; I am God who made the Earth
     iii) I control the Sun and Moon
     iv) I know the circumference of the Earth
     v) I know the path of a lightning bolt and the number of clouds in the sky
     vi) I provide food to the baby birds and lion cubs - I know EVERY detail of my Earth
     vii) shall you contend with the Almighty ?
 B. Job answers God
     i) I am vile ; I put my hand over my mouth
     ii) I know you can do anything and no thought can be hidden from you
     iii) I hate myself and repent in dust and ashes
  C. God talks to Job's Friends
     i) I am angry at you - you have spoken wrongly about Job and me
     ii) take sacrifice to Job who will offer it to me and ask Job to pray for you

III. Take Homes From The Book Of Job
   A. Job proved that he would not curse God when he lost everything but he did sin which was not the question
   B. Job challenged God saying he did not know his plight and he could argue his case if only God would listen
   C.  Job only was returned to his place AFTER he prayed for his friends
   D. God does not run the world from a distance - he knows all about our problems
   E. No one has all the facts and reasons behind suffering  
   G. God limits our suffering and provides a path of relief
   H. Suffering can bring good - as was the case for Job ; his relationship with God was improved
   J. God knows best and if we trust in him we WILL win in the end ( whether in this world and/or Heaven )
   K. Job only had God for his support during plenty and distress
