THANK GOD FOR MOTHERS
II Tim 1:1-7



I . Background

   A. The first 4 of the 10 Commandments are about our relationship with God
Ex. 20 : 1-20
   B. The next 6 are about our relationship with others
   C. The first personal relation command is " Honor Thy Father & Thy Mother "  
vs. 12
   D. Obeying this command bring long days on this Earth and it will be good with you Deut 5:16

II. Paul Writes To Timothy ( his Son in the Lord )  About His Faithful Life

   A. He remembered his tears vs. 4
      i) he must have wept realizing it was his last time to see his father in the Lord
      ii) we learn tenderness from our Mother
      iii) our Lord had a tender heart
      iv) it's the first attribute Paul mentions
   B. Sincere Faith  vs. 5
      i) he learned that from his Grandmother ( Lois ) and Mother ( Eunice )
      ii) Phil 2:20 Timothy had love and faith like no other
      iii) these women modeled their faith to the point that they converted Timothy
      iv) his Father was not a believer Acts 16:1
   C. He was bold in the Lord vs. 7
      i) his Mother and Grandmother taught him to ACT on his faith - not be timid
      ii) even though he was young he was consistent on supporting Paul in the Gospel
      iii) being timid keeps us from growing and acting
   D. He was powerful in the Lord's service vs. 7
      i) he used his talents to the maximum based on the teaching and example of the two women
      ii) Paul loved him and nurtured him as a son ( like none other )
     iii) Paul counted on him and gave him personal information  II Tim 4
   E. He had great Love vs. 7
      i) God is love and so are Mothers
      ii) Mothers don't stop loving even when that have tough love
   F. He had Self- disciple vs. 7
      i) his Grandmother and Mother was his pattern for keeping themselves under control
      ii) today many Moms need to work more on self - discipline

III. Honor Your Mother
   A. Some Mothers are harder to honor than others
   B. But we obey God and trust that he will bless us

Exo 20:12 "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.
