JESUS BUILDS HIS CHURCH

I. Look Back
   A. When man sinned in the Garden God promised that Eve's seed would bruise Satan's head - Gen 3:15
   B. In the Patriarchal Period God told one man what to do
      i) when he did what God said he was blessed - Gen 6:22
      ii) when he did not he was accepted by God  - Gen 4: 5
      iii) God made his covenants with one man at a time ;  through Abraham's seed the Savior would come
   C. Genesis gives the accounts of the Patriarchal fathers
      i) Noah was told to build an ark ; Abraham was told to go to Canaan
      ii) Joseph was told to save mankind from famine
   D. Moses was the last Patriarch and the Lawgiver for the Second period in the Bible called the Mosaic Law
      i) Moses was told to deliver God's people from bondage in Egypt
      ii) He was told to receive the 10 Commandments on Mount Sinai
      ii) God made this covenant with the Children of Israel - Deut 5:1-5
      iii) When people disobeyed they were punished
   E. All of the prophets said God would send a son to save the whole world ( not just one Patriarch ; not just the Israelites)

II. Jesus Comes To Earth
   A. He was in the beginning but came physically to Earth - John 1:1-4
   B. First John the Baptizer was sent to prepare the way - John 1
   C. Then our Lord was born to a poor family - Mary and Joseph  but God was his Father
   D. John baptized Jesus - to fulfill righteousness not for forgiveness of sin - Mt 3:15

IV. Jesus' Ministry
   A.  He calls his disciples - Jn 16
   B. He proves his Lordship through
      i) turning water to wine Jn 2:1-11
      ii) raising the dead - Jn 20:31
      iii) healing the sick - Mt 14:14
      iv) knew everything about people's lives - Jn 4
   C. He taught how to live our lives - Sermon on the Mount - Mt 5-7
   D. He was kind and gentle to sinners and the poor but was not patient with the self righteous or puffed up

V. He Came To Die For Us -  Lk 22:15
   A. He died that we might live - I Jn 4:9
   B. He was resurrected to prove he has power over death - Jn 17:2
   C. He is coming back - Jn 14:3

VI . Take Homes
   A. Jesus lived under and kept perfectly the Mosaic Law
   B. He died that everyone ( not just Israelites ) can be saved
   C. When died and was raised from the dead the third period of God's dealing with man began
