WHEN FAITH DOESN'T WORK
James 1 :14-26
I. Verbal Faith Does Not Save - vs. 14
A. Just believing with the mouth or heart is not enough
B. Without change in our lives no action will take place
C. You can't be a Christian without fruit
II. Verbal Faith Doesn't Cause Us To Serve Others - vs. 15-16
A. Example James used is a brother who is in need and we pray
for him instead of helping
B. We help to the extent we are able
C. If we do not help the love of God does not dwell in us - I
Jn 3:17-18
D. We either love in " word and tongue " ( no action ) or in
" deed and truth " ( action ) - I Jn 3:17-18
III. Verbal Faith Doesn't Survive - vs. 17
A. Lack of fruit shows our faith is shallow and soon will die
B. The one that will be blessed is the one that " doeth " the will of my
Father - Mt 7: 21
C. Christianity must be active and dynamic - like our Lord
IV. Faith Principles
A. Without work / action our Faith is Dead - we have nothing to show - vs. 18
B. Belief alone is not enough - Hell is filled with believers -
vs. 19 - 20
V. Examples Of Working Faith
A. Abraham believed and " offered " his son - then was he accepted -
vs. 21-24
B. He was justified because of his action and NOT BY FAITH ONLY ! ( only verse in the Bible where faith and only are used )
C. Rahab the harlot - no one could be more different from Abraham but her faith in God that " acted " saved her life and soul - vs. 25
VI . Conclusions
A. Faith without work / action is no good and will soon die
B. When Christ is in us we can not help but act
