LAW OF MOSES - JOSHUA TO JESUS
I. Israel Takes Canaan
A. The Jordan River parts when the priests carry the Arc through it ( Num 26:63 )
B. God leads Israel by using Judges ( Book of Judges )
C. Samson , Deborah , and Samuel ( last Judge ) led Israel
II. Then The King's Led Israel
A. Saul is the first king - I Sam 10-31
B. David ( who had the heart of God ) was the second king - II Sam
C. Solomon ( the wisest man built the Temple after God's plan but loved too many women ) was the last king of unified Israel I Kings 1-11
D. The Kingdom is divided
i) Rehoboam ( Solomon's son ) is King over Judah ( Judah & Benjamin )
ii) Jeroboam is king over Israel ( other 10 tribes )
iii) Israel never served God faithfully and was taken into captivity never to return
iv) Judah served God when led by a good king - when the King was bad they worshipped other gods
v) God sends Judah into 70 years of captivity - when they returned they never served other gods
III. God Sends Prophets To Get Judah Ready For Jesus
A. Isaiah , Jeremiah , Lamentations , Ezekiel , and Daniel are called Major Prophets due to their length
B. The other 12 prophets are called Minor Prophets due to their short length
C. Isaiah foretold 750 years before Christ that he would establish a new kingdom - Is. 2:1-5
D. Joel predicted that God's new Kingdom would include ALL nations - Joel 2 :28
E. Daniel said that the new Kingdom would never be destroyed - Dan. 2:44
F. Zechariah predicted that the Lord would offer the ONE sacrifice for all sin - Zech 12:10
IV. Conclusions
A. To be blessed by God , Israel had to do what God said or else they were punished ( e.g. captivity due to serving other gods )
B. They had to worship the way God said to be acceptable ( e.g. the Temple was built exactly to God's pattern )
C. God took care of his people ( when they served him they won the battles and when they
repented God brought them from captivity )
D. The Law of Moses applied only to the Israelites and their proselytes
